<샌드스톰>은 가부장제 사회에 갇힌 10대 소녀 자라의 평범한 일상으로 시작한다. 그녀가 사는 곳에서는 여성미를 드러내는 춤도, 몸을 드러내는 옷도 허락되지 않는다. 가족과 사회를 비롯한 감시의 눈은 곳곳에 포진해 있지만, 자라는 사랑하고 사랑받는 사춘기 소녀의 꿈을 놓치고 싶지 않다.
온라인에서 만난 남자친구에게 충동적으로 자신의 섹시한 춤 동영상을 보낸 자라는 남자친구의 영상 유출에 대한 은근한 암시에서 느껴지는 협박에 동요한다. 평범한 로맨스도 범죄의 표적으로 변모할 수 있는 SNS의 어두운 속성과, 엄격한 가부장제 사회가 결합한 이야기인 <샌드스톰>은 결국 주인공 자라의 선택을 따라가지만, 제도와 장치가 생산하는 여성에 대한 폭력적 시선은 여전히 현재진행형이다.
Zara, a schoolgirl in Karachi, shares a sensual dance video with her virtual boyfriend, who then blackmails her. Caught between his manipulative behavior and the desire to experience love on her own terms, Zara searches for the strength to reject the confines of a patriarchal society.

파키스탄의 각본가이자 감독, 제작자. 작품 다수가 셰필드다큐멘터리영화제를 비롯한 여러 영화제에서 상영됐다. 단편 <샌드스톰>은 베니스국제영화제에서 프리미어로 상영됐고, 선댄스영화제 경쟁 부문에 초청됐다.
