이스라엘의 공격으로 가족과 함께 숨진 이란 시인 파르니아 아바시(Parnia Abbasi)를 추모하는 행사가 지난 12일 금요일 저녁, 테헤란 이란예술가포럼(Iranian Artists’ Forum)에서 열렸다. 24살 아바시는 부모와 15세 동생과 함께 자택에서 희생됐다.
이번 추모식은 이란의 문화예술잡지 <아스레 로우샨>(Asre Rowshan)이 주최했다. 행사는 “전쟁이 세계 문학에 미치는 영향”을 주제로 한 문화 모임의 일환으로 진행됐다.
모하마드 타바타바이는 현대 전쟁 속 편지쓰기의 역사에 대해 강연했으며, 제2차 세계대전 당시의 연서와 유서들을 중심으로 고찰했다.
국립오케스트라와 교향악단에서 활동 중인 가수 파젤 잠시디는 전쟁과 위기 상황에서 음악과 사회가 서로에게 미치는 영향을 설명했다.
시인이자 평론가인 하미드레자 셰카르사리는 이라크 전쟁 시기의 시와 최근 이스라엘 공격에 반응한 시의 차이를 언급하며, 최근의 시는 구호 중심이 아닌 감정과 진정성에 기반하고 있다고 강조했다.
이어 아프사네 호스니에는 세계시인협회 회장인 그리스 시인 디미트리스 P. 크라니오티스가 보내온 메시지 “전쟁 속 시와 문학”을 페르시아어로 번역해 낭독했다. 그는 시와 문학이 단순히 전쟁을 묘사하는 데 그치지 않고, 인간의 영혼 깊숙한 고통을 기록하며 그것을 잊지 않게 해주는 거울이라고 전했다.
행사에서는 특히 아바시의 삶을 기리는 시간이 길게 마련됐다. 그녀는 테헤란 사타르 칸 지역 자택에서 가족과 함께 공습 첫날 희생됐다. 사촌이 유족을 대신해 글을 읽었고, 대학 동기이자 약혼자인 연인은 그녀가 생을 얼마나 사랑했는지를 회상하며 비극적인 죽음을 애도했다.
이날 행사에서는 아시아기자협회 창립회장인 이상기 아시아엔 발행인이 보낸 영상 메시지도 상영됐다. 이 메시지는 이란 시인이자 AJA 회원인 알리레자 바흐라미가 페르시아어로 번역해 전달했다. 이 회장은 “파르니아 아바시의 이름은 이제 하나의 시가 되었으며, 그녀의 죽음은 결코 헛되지 않았다”고 강조했다. 그는 이어 “12일간의 전쟁 동안 희생된 수많은 이란 시민들의 죽음은, 우리가 얼마나 쉽게 생명의 가치를 잊고 폭력에 무뎌지는지를 되새기게 한다”고 말했다.
아프리카기자협회 사무총장이자 AJA 전 회장인 이집트 시인 아시라프 아부엘야지드의 음성 메시지도 전해졌고, 바흐라미가 이를 페르시아어로 낭독했다. 그는 파르니아를 “새벽의 숨결처럼 고요하게 시를 쓰던 이”라며, “그녀는 이 무거운 세상에서 한 줄기 빛을 붙잡았지만, 배신의 미사일이 떠오르기 전 그녀를 덮쳤다. 우리는 계속 써야 한다. 시는 폭격당하지 않게 해야 하며, 시는 죽지 않고 시인도 죽지 않는다”고 전했다.
행사는 이란의 다양한 세대 시인들이 무대에 올라, 아바시와 함께 희생된 문화예술인을 기리는 헌시 낭송으로 마무리되었다.

Parnia Abbasi Commemorated in Tehran with Participation of AJA Members
A memorial ceremony was held on Friday evening at the Iranian Artists’ Forum in Tehran to honor Parnia Abbasi, a 24-year-old Iranian poet who was killed along with her parents and 15-year-old brother during an Israeli attack.
The event was organized by Asre Rowshan magazine in cooperation with the Asia Journalists Association (AJA) and the World Poets Society (WPS). The ceremony took place during a cultural meeting on the theme “The Impact of War on World Literature.”
Mohammad Tabatabaei opened the event with remarks on the history of letter writing in modern warfare, including love letters from soldiers and farewell notes from partisans in World War II.
Fazel Jamshidi, a singer with the National Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra, spoke about the relationship between music and society during times of war and crisis.
Poet and critic Hamidreza Shekarsari compared the poetry of the Iraq War era with that written during the recent Israeli attacks, emphasizing that contemporary poems were not slogan-driven but grounded in emotional depth.
Afsaneh Hossnieh read the Persian translation of a message sent by Greek poet Dimitris P. Kraniotis, president of the WPS, titled “War in Poetry and Literature.” The message stated that poetry and literature not only reflect war but also preserve the human soul in its most vulnerable moments.
A major part of the evening was devoted to commemorating Abbasi, who was killed at her home in Tehran’s Sattar Khan neighborhood on the first night of the Israeli assault. Her cousin read a message on behalf of the family, and her fiancé, who was also her university classmate, shared heartfelt memories. He described her as someone who deeply loved life but met a cruel and untimely fate.
A video message from Lee Sang-ki, founder of the Asian Journalists Association, was also played. His message was translated into Persian by Iranian poet and AJA member Alireza Bahrami. Lee said Abbasi’s name had become a poem, and her death was not in vain. He added that the loss of so many lives during the twelve days of war was a stark reminder of how easily society forgets the value of life.
An audio message from Ashraf Aboul-Yazid, Egyptian poet and former president of AJA, was also played. Bahrami read the Persian translation of his words, which described Abbasi as a poet who wrote in the silence of dawn. He called on writers to continue expressing truth through poetry so that it may never again be silenced by violence.
The evening concluded with poetry readings by Iranian poets from various generations, honoring Abbasi and other artists who were killed during the Israeli attacks.
