<떠내려가는 집>은 베트남 전쟁으로 인해 떨어져 살게 된 두 자매 타오와 사오마이의 이야기를 그린 수작 애니메이션이다.

1975년 가을, 전쟁으로 인해 혼란스러운 상황 속에서 10대 소녀 타오는 삼촌과 함께 살아남기 위해 베트남을 떠났고, 가족들은 사정이 나아지면 타오와 합류하기로 약속하며 고국에 남았다.

그러나 전쟁 이후 더욱 험악해진 베트남 사회로 인해 남아있는 가족의 고난은 계속되었고, 함께 하자던 약속은 끝내 지켜지지 않았다.

이국에 온 타오 역시 가족에 대한 그리움을 지닌 채 난민으로 외롭고 힘든 삶을 지탱해 간다. 전쟁이 남긴 상처와 자매의 기구한 운명은 베트남의 상처 많은 역사와 겹쳐지며, 영화는 이 가슴 아픈 가족의 서사를 서정적이면서도 힘있는 터치로 묘사하고 있다.

Two sisters grow up in Vietnam and are separated by the war between North and South. After the fall of Saigon in 1975, Thao, in her teens, must leave the country with her uncle.

Her sister Saoi Maï, only a little older, remains with their parents, hoping they will soon be reunited. But their separation will last nearly 20 years, and the letters they exchange are their only way to connect and relieve their loneliness.

Thao and Sao Maï write about their everyday lives, their memories, the war, and its ghosts.

1978년생. 파리 뒤페레 응용예술학교를 졸업하고 국립장식미술학교에 입학하여 애니메이션을 시작했다. 재학 중에 작업한 <머리도 꼬리도 없이>(2003)는 유럽 카툰 포럼에서 골든 카툰상을 수상했다.

She graduated from the Duperré School of Applied Arts and then entered EnsAD in Paris, where she discovered animation. Her final-year film, Without Head Nor Tail (2002), won the Gold Cartoon. She also works as an illustrator.
