남편과 헤어져 홀로 딸을 키우고 있는 씨엘로. 어느날 남자친구를 만나러 나간 딸 라우라가 납치된다. 몸값을 주지만 딸은 돌아오지 않고, 경찰조차도 미온적인 태도를 보이자, 씨엘로는 딸을 직접 되찾기 위해 불법 용병군의 수장과 접촉하기에 이른다.
<딸이 납치됐다>는 멕시코를 배경으로 횡행하는 불법 납치와 범죄 카르텔에 홀로 대항하는 한 여성의 이야기를 통해 현재 멕시코 사회의 무기력한 이면을 들여다본다. 평범한 중년 여성이 딸을 되찾기 위해 겪어야 하는 범죄와 폭력의 세계는 피해자인 그녀를 나라 전체가 뒤얽혀 있는 부패와 폭력의 사슬의 일부로 만들어버린다.
가족을 위해 이웃에 범죄를 저지르고, 공권력의 부패로 인해 용병이 판을 치는 동안, 전통적인 선과 악의 개념은 점점 모호해진다.
Cielo’s teenage daughter, Laura, is kidnapped in Northern Mexico. Despite paying several ransoms, Laura is not returned. When the authorities offer no support in the search, Cielo takes matters into her own hands.
She finds help from Lamarque, a military man with unconventional modus operandi, who agrees to assist her in her search — off the record — in exchange for information which she can provide as a local. Cielo’s collaboration with Lamarque will pull her into the spiral of violence that made her a victim in the first place.

차우셰스쿠 집권 하 부쿠레슈티에서 태어나 1989년에 부모님이 계신 벨기에로 이동했다. 뉴욕에서 영화를 공부, 데뷔작 <8월을 기다리며>(2014)로 유럽영화상 후보에도 올랐다.
Teodora Ana MIHAI
Born in Bucharest in 1981. She studied film in NY and started working as a script supervisor and assistant director in Belgium. Her debut film Waiting for August (2014) was awarded with over 10 international prizes.
