1981년 프랑스 브리타니의 시골 마을에서 해적 라디오 방송을 하는 형제 제롬과 필립 그리고 친구들은 이기팝과 스투지스, 조이 디비전의 음악에 취해 자유로운 시절을 함께 보낸다. 모든 것이 가능하고, 정치가 아니라 음악이 세상을 바꿀 거라던 그들의 화양연화는 필립이 징집되어 베를린으로 떠나면서 막을 내린다.

필립은 군대에서 방송을 하며 자신의 재능을 확인하지만, 휴가 차 돌아온 고향의 풍경은 예전과는 많이 달라져 있다. 카리스마 넘치는 리더였던 형 제롬을 비롯해 모든 반짝이던 열기가 사라진 후 필립은 비로소 그 시절이 다시는 돌아올 수 없다는 사실을 깨닫는다.

알 수 없는 열망과 에너지로 들뜨던 청춘의 공기, 유한하기에 소중했던 그 시절에 대한 노스탤지어로 가득찬 <비트>는 언더그라운드 음악이라는 소재를 통해 감각적인 방식으로 80년대를 회고하고 있다.

Britanny, 1980’s. A bunch of friends yearning for excitement broadcast a free radio station from their hometown in the countryside. Jerome leads it with unique charisma while Philippe, the technical genius, lives in the shadow of Jerome, his big brother.

When called for the military service, Philippe has no choice but to leave for West Berlin. He’s determined to keep on broadcasting, but realizes that he just lived the last glorious moments of a world on the verge of extinction.

뱅상 마엘 카르도나

1980년 브리타니에서 태어났다. 라 페미스에서 연출을 전공하였고, 졸업 작품 <까꿍, 구름아>(2010)로 칸영화제 시네파운데이션에서 2등상을 수상했다. <비트>는 그의 첫 장편작이다.

Vincent Maël CARDONA

Born in Brittany in 1980. He entered the directing department of La Fémis and won the 2nd prize of Cannes Cinéfondation with Coucou-les-Nuages(2010), his graduation film. Magnetic Beats is his first feature film.
