[아시아엔=글·사진 알리레자 바라미 이란 ‘Asre Rowshan’ 편집인, 이란 ISNA 전 편집장] 지난 월요일 도널드 트럼프 미국 대통령이 “테헤란 시민들은 도시를 떠나라”는 메시지를 남겼다. 일부 언론은 그의 메시지를 “미국이 참전하기로 결정했다”고 해석했다. 트럼프는 또한 미국 대표단이 “휴전 협상이 아니라 이란 핵 프로그램을 중단시키기 위한 합의점을 찾기 위해” 이란 외무부와 접촉하고 있다고 밝혔다.이에 대해 이란 언론인들은 트럼프의 발언을 신뢰할 수 없다고 주장한다. 트럼프는 이스라엘의 이란 공습 하루 전까지만 해도 “전쟁에 반대한다”고 밝혔으나 전쟁이 발발한 그 다음날에는 이스라엘을 지지한다고 밝혔다. 이란 국민들은 그의 모순된 태도를 바라보며 “트럼프는 언제든 거짓말을 할 수 있는 사람이며, 우리가 방심한 때를 노려 침공해 올 수 있다”는 인식을 갖게 됐다.
지난 월요일 이스라엘이 이란 국영방송국을 폭격한 이후 이란의 다른 언론사들도 목표가 될 수 있을 것이란 이야기가 돌았다. 그로 인해 이란에 위치해 있는 언론사들 중에는 오늘(17일)부로 사무실을 완전히 폐쇄하거나 장소를 이전한 곳들 있었다.
반면 런던이나 뉴욕, 워싱턴 등지에서 운영되고 있는 BBC 페르시아어판이나 이란 인터내셔널 방송은 이러한 위협에서 상대적으로 안전한 상황이다. 그 중 이란 인터내셔널은 이스라엘을 지지하는 것으로 알려져 있다. 이와 관련해 BBC 페르시아어판 전 편집장은 오늘 “이란 인터내셔널은 이스라엘의 예산지원을 받고 있다”고도 밝혔다. 이에 이란 정부 측은 “이란 국민들은 이란 인터내셔널을 보이콧해야 한다”고 촉구했으나 그런 일은 일어나지 않을 것이다. 이란 국민들은 정부가 운영하는 이란 국영방송을 지켜보며 깊은 실망감을 느껴왔다.
불과 어제 방송국이 폭파될 위기에 놓였음에도 소임을 다했던 이란 국영방송의 앵커가 세계적인 화제를 불러모았다. 그러나 자유를 갈망하는 이란 국민들은 그녀를 영웅으로 여기지 않는다. 이들은 그녀가 지난 3년간 이란 시위대를 억압하는 프로그램에 기여했다는 사실을 지금도 기억하고 있다.
오늘 이란에선 글로벌 메신저인 왓츠앱과 인스타그램이 이스라엘군에 정보를 제공했다는 소문이 돌았다. 그에 따라 “오늘 밤부터 인터넷 해외접속이 차단될 것”이라는 보도도 있었다. 나 역시 외부와의 연락이 어려워 질 수 있다. 그러나 걱정하지 말라. 살아만 있다면 어떻게든 소식을 전할 방법을 찾을 것이다.
오늘 테헤란 대형 광장의 벽면에 ‘아라쉬’(Arash)의 그림이 걸렸다. 아라쉬는 이란의 신화 속 인물로 고대 페르시아 문헌에 따르면 다음과 같은 전설이 내려오고 있다.
“아라쉬가 활을 쏘아 국경을 정하라는 임무를 부여 받았다. 그는 온 힘을 다한 나머지 활을 쏜 그 자리에서 생을 마감했다”
