도윤은 성인이 되어 보육원을 나가야 한다. 호주로 가기 위해 돈을 모으는 도윤. 이때 승원이라는 중년 남자가 아버지라며 찾아온다. 15년 전 버렸던 자식을 다시 입양하는 승원. 그에겐 재민이라는 아들이 있고, 이렇게 시작된 세 사람의 어색한 동거는 예상치 못한 방향으로 나아간다.
러닝타임의 2/3까지는 혈육에 대한 사연을 지닌 가족 멜로처럼 진행되는 <아이를 위한 아이>는 흐뭇한 화해의 결말을 향하는 듯하다가 질문을 던진다.
가족이란 무엇인가.
이 간단하면서도 엄중한 질문 앞에서 영화는 섣불리 대답하지 않고 두 아이가 자신의 삶을 선택하는 과정을 지켜본다. 차곡차곡 빌드업 한 후 단순한 서사 장치를 통해 테마를 전하는 영화. 기교 없이 묵묵히 전진하는 정공법 스타일은 힘을 느끼게 한다.
Do-yoon is about to leave the orphanage when he legally becomes an adult. Instead, he is reunited with his father Seung-won, who appears after 15 years to take him home. Do-yoon adjusts to the newfound family that also includes Jae-min, a little brother.
Seung-won’s sudden death makes Do-yoon the legal guardian, and he comes across something strange in his late father’s records while trying to claim insurance money. More shocking evidence is found at the orphanage, and Do-yoon feels all the more confused about his identity as he gets nearer to the truth.

1990년생, 명지대학교 영화과 졸업. 다수의 단편을 연출하면서 여러 영화제에 초청되었고, 단편 <잠몰>(2017)은 미쟝센 단편영화제 최우수상을 수상했다. <아이를 위한 아이>는 그의 첫 장편이다.

Born in 1990. He majored in film at Myongji University. His short films were invited to several film festivals, and Dive(2018) won the Best Film at Mise-enꠓscène Short Film Festival. This film is his first feature film.
