<두 세계 사이에서>는 독보적인 커리어의 여배우 줄리엣 비노슈의 존재감이 두드러지는 영화다. 저명한 작가이면서 고용 불안에 대한 신작을 쓰기 위해 직접 하층노동자들의 삶을 체험하고자 정체를 숨기고 청소부가 된 중년의 작가 마리안은 미스터리하면서도 신경증을 숨기고 있는 여성이다.

커리어 내내 비밀스럽고 충동적이면서도 지적인 역할을 소화해온 줄리엣 비노슈의 불가사의한 매력은 마리안이라는 여성에 마치 맞춤복인 듯 들어맞는다. 마리안이 의도적으로 자신의 삶에서 벗어나 다른 삶에 뛰어드는 순간, 이제껏 보이지 않았던 것들이 보이기 시작한다.

청소부로 일하는 동료들과 우정을 쌓아가면서, 그녀의 가짜 정체성은 균열을 일으킨다. 상류층 지식인이 가진 것 없는 청소부들과 나눴던 연대와 공감의 순간들은 마지막 장면에서 미묘한 잔상을 남긴다.

Marianne Winckler, a well-known author, goes to live in northern France to
research for her new book on the subject of job insecurity. Without revealing
her true identity, she gets hired as a cleaner, working with a group of other
women. In this new role, she experiences financial instability and social
invisibility first-hand. But she also discovers mutual assistance and solidarity,
strong bonds shared by these behind-the-scenes working women

엠마뉘엘 카레르
1957년 프랑스 출생. 작가이자 감독이다. <코텔니치로 돌아가다>(2003)와 <콧수염>(2005)으로 이름을 알렸다. 현재 <두 세계 사이에서> 작업을 마쳤다.
