[신년사·조지아] 가카리아 총리 “유럽과의 통합에 지속적으로 노력”
[아시아엔=카투나 차피차드제 조지아공대 교수] 기오르기 가카리아 조지아 총리는 새해를 맞아 “국민 모두의 소원이 이루어지길 바라며, 유익한 변화에 대한 희망과 기대로 가득 차있는 마음을 전한다”고 밝혔다.
가카리아 총리는 또 신년사를 통해 유럽과의 통합을 위한 조지아의 지속적인 노력을 강조했다. 이는 과거 조지아 정부가 아프가니스탄 및 이라크 파병을 통해 보여준 친서방적인 행보와 무관하지 않다.
러시아와의 영토분쟁이 진행되고 있는 조지아 내 남오세티아(South Ossetia) 거주민들을 향해서는 “우리는 공통의 미래를 건설해 나갈 것이라고 믿는다”는 메시지를 던졌다.
가카리아 총리는 신년사 말미에 “의사, 교사, 군인, 경찰관, 공무원, 기업가와 학생 등 책임있는 국민 모두가 산적한 국가 과제들을 헤쳐나가야 할 것”이라며 “2020년은 조지아 국가와 국민들의 승리의 한해가 될 것”이라고 선포했다.<번역 송재걸 기자>

Georgia
Georgia’s Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia said in a statement to mark the New Year: “I hope all the people’s wishes come true, and I convey my sincere message full of hope and expectation for a beneficial change.”
In his New Year’s address, the Prime Minister also highlighted Georgia’s continued efforts to integrate with Europe, which is not unrelated to the pro-Western moves the previous Georgian government showed through its dispatch of troops to Afghanistan and Iraq. “We believe we will build a common future,” he said of South Ossetia residents in Georgia, where a territorial dispute with Russia is present.
At the end of his New Year’s address, the Prime Minister vowed, “All doctors, teachers, soldiers, police officers, government officials, businessmen and students must weather a flurry of national problems and 2020 will be the year of victory.”
Georgian citizens have benefitted from visa free travel to the Schengen area since 28 March 2017; closest cooperation between NATO and Georgia built even since the 90s of the 20th century), Georgian PM Giorgi Gakharia expressed his confidence about the further progress of Georgia finally taking its honorable place in Europe with its traditions and unique cultural identity.
