[성명] 5·18기념재단 “태국정부 민주인사 즉각 석방하라”
[아시아엔=송재걸 기자] 5·18기념재단(이사장 이철우)은 10일 태국 정부가 9일 광주인권상 수상자 아논 남파 등 인권활동가 4명을 왕실모독죄, 폭동교사 및 여타 죄목으로 기소 구금한 것과 관련해 “불법 구금된 4명의 민주인사들을 즉각 석방하라”며 “민주화 요구를 탄압으로 일관하고 있는 태국 정부를 규탄한다”고 밝혔다.
5·18기념재단은 성명을 통해 “이들은 범법자가 아니라 민주주의 수호자로 이들이 한 일은 정치 및 왕실 개혁을 통한 태국의 민주주의 수호”라며 “우리는 태국 민주화를 지원하기 위해 국제사회와 연대할 것”이라고 말했다.

태국 민주화운동 활동가들의 석방을 요구한다!
태국정부는 2021년 2월 9일 저녁 2021년 광주인권상 수상자 아논 남파를 포함한 인권활동가 4명을 왕실모독죄, 폭동교사 및 여타 죄목으로 기소 구금하였다.
구금된 인사들은 오랜 인권운동가이자 2021 광주인권상 수상자인 아논 남파, 타마삿대학연합시위전선 소속 대학생 활동가 파릿 치와락, 2016년 전태일상 특별상 수상자 소묫 프룩사카넴숙, 파티왓 사라이얌이다.
5·18기념재단은 위 네 명의 활동가들은 구금되어야 할 범법자가 아니라 민주주의 수호자로 이들이 한 일은 정치 및 왕실 개혁을 통한 태국의 민주주의를 요구한 것뿐이라는 것을 분명히 밝힌다.
5·18기념재단은 지난해부터 거세게 일어나고 있는 자국 국민의 민주화 요구를 탄압으로 일관하고 있는 태국 정부를 규탄한다. 또한 재단은 태국 민주화를 지원하기 위해 국제사회와 연대할 것임을 밝히며 아래 사항을 강력히 요구한다.

The May 18 Memorial Foundation Demands Release of Pro-Democracy Activists!
On February 9, 2021 the Thai government indicted and detained four pro-democracy activists for alleged violations of lese-majeste, sedition, and other offenses.
They are Mr. Arnon Nampa, a long time human rights lawyer and the Laureate of the 2021 Gwangju Prize for Human Rights, Mr. Parit Chiwarak, a student activist of the United Front of Thammasat and Demonstration group, Mr. Somyot Pruksakasemsuk, the Laureate of the 2016 Chun Tae-il Prize Special Award, and Mr. Patiwat Saraiyam.
The May 18 Memorial Foundation acknowledges that the four activists are not criminals to be incarcerated but defenders of democracy and what they did was nothing but demanding democracy through political and monarchy reforms.
The May 18 Memorial Foundation denounces the Thai government that has consistently oppressed the pro-democracy movement of its people. The May 18 Memorial Foundation will stand in solidarity with the international communities to support Thailand’s democracy and demands the below:
– Release the pro-democracy activists immediately!
– Stop the oppression of the democracy movement in Thailand!
