아시아기자협회 “바이든 당선인 건강한 세계질서 회복 앞장서길”

[아시아엔=송재걸 기자] (사)아시아기자협회(회장 아시라프 달리)는 9일 조 바이든 후보의 미국 제46대 대통령 당선과 관련해 성명을 내고 “바이든 대통령이 ‘사람을 아끼고 인류를 살려낸 대통령’으로 영원히 기억되길 바란다”고 했다.

아시아기자협회(이하 아자)는 이날 성명에서 “우리는 바이든 대통령 당선자가 비상식과 넌센스, 그리고 ‘강자에 의한 독주’를 벗어나 상식과 원칙에 입각한 세계질서를 회복시키는 데 앞장서길 바라며 함께 응원할 것”이라고 말했다.

아자는 또 “바이든 행정부가 대아시아 정책에도 구체적이고 실질적인 대안을 내주길 요구한다”며 “극도로 악화되고 있는 미중 무역분쟁에 대해 유연성을 발휘하고 핵 위협 제거를 전제로 대이란 및 대북한 제재에 대해서도 ‘평화적이면서도 효과적인 대안’을 모색해 나가길 바란다”고 말했다.

아자는 이와 함께 “분쟁과 전쟁의 일상화로 미래의 꿈을 잃어버린 중동의 소년소녀들에게 희망을 되찾아주길 간절히 기원한다”며 “바이든 행정부가 전세계 의료진의 지혜를 모아 코로나 백신 및 치료제 개발 등 코로나19에 강력히 대처해주리라 믿는다”고 밝혔다.

아자는 이어 “바이든 새 정부가 트럼프 행정부의 이스라엘과 UAE의 외교관계 회복 등 긍정적인 유산은 적극 계승하면서, 동시에 왜곡돼온 대외정책은 과감히 수술해 나가길 아울러 당부한다”며 “기후변화를 비롯한 지구환경 개선과 난민 문제 등에 대해서도 바이든 당선자는 후보 시절 공약을 충실히 이행할 것을 우리는 믿어 의심치 않는다”고 말했다.

‘사람을 아끼고 인류를 살려낸 대통령’으로 영원히 기억되길

아시아기자협회(회장 아시라프 달리)는 아시아 50여개국 회원들의 마음을 담아 조 바이든 후보의 미국 대통령 당선을 진심으로 환영한다.

바이든 후보가 50년의 정치 역정 가운데, 개인적인 불행과 두 번의 실패 등 난관을 뚫고 마침내 제46대 미국 대통령에 당선된 것은 그의 “분열 아닌 통합, 민주당 아닌 미국 대통령될 것”이라고 밝힌 연설에서 잘 드러난다.

그는 “지금은 치유할 시간”이라며 “미국의 영혼을 회복해 다시 세계의 존경을 받게 하겠다”고 말했다. 그의 이 말은 미국뿐 아니라 자유와 정의에 기반한 시민의 행복을 최고 덕목으로 여기는 민주주의 국가 모두에 해당된다고 우리는 본다.

우리는 바이든 당선자가 “미국에서 악마처럼 만들려고 하는 음울한 시대는 지금 여기에서 끝내자”며 “나는 트럼프 대통령에게 투표한 모든 이들이 실망하는 것을 이해한다”며 화합과 단합을 역설한 점을 높게 평가한다.

우리는 바이든 대통령 당선자가 비상식과 넌센스, 그리고 ‘강자에 의한 독주’를 벗어나 상식과 원칙에 입각한 세계질서를 회복시키는 데 앞장서길 바라며 함께 응원할 것이다.

21세기 3번째 10년의 첫해인 2020년 들어 전 세계가 불행히도 코로나19의 팬더믹에 빠져 혼란과 위기를 겪고 있다. 우리는 바이든 행정부가 전세계 의료진의 지혜를 모아 코로나 백신 및 치료제 개발 등 코로나19에 강력히 대처해주리라 믿는다.

아자는 이와 함께 트럼프 행정부의 미국 고립정책으로 방치·왜곡돼온 대아시아 정책에도 구체적이고 실질적인 대안을 내주길 요구한다. 극도로 악화되고 있는 미중 무역분쟁에 대해 유연성을 발휘하고 핵 위협 제거를 전제로 대이란 및 대북한 제재에 대해서도 ‘평화적이면서도 효과적인 대안’을 모색해 나가길 바란다. 또 팔레스타인 문제를 둘러싼 이스라엘과 일부 아랍국가의 갈등과 분쟁에 대해서도 지혜롭게 해결의 실마리를 제시해주길 바란다. 이와 함께 분쟁과 전쟁의 일상화로 미래의 꿈을 잃어버린 중동의 소년소녀들에게 희망을 되찾아주길 간절히 기원한다.

우리는 바이든 새 정부가 트럼프 행정부의 이스라엘과 UAE 및 바레인 등과의 외교관계 정상화 등 긍정적인 유산은 적극 계승하면서 동시에 왜곡돼온 대외정책은 과감히 수술해 나가길 아울러 당부한다.

기후변화를 비롯한 지구환경 개선과 난민 문제 등에 대해서도 바이든 당선자는 후보 시절 공약을 충실히 이행할 것을 우리는 믿어 의심치 않는다.

우리는 그가 당선 인사를 통해 밝힌 두 대목에 특히 주목한다.

“훌륭한 부통령과 함께하게 돼 영광으로 생각합니다. 카멀라 해리스는 이 나라 역사상 최초의 여성이자, 최초의 비백인 여성이자, 최초의 아시아계이자, 최초의 이민자 자녀로 부통령에 선출되는 역사를 썼습니다.”

“민주당원, 공화당원, 그리고 무당파. 진보세력과 온건파와 보수파, 젊은이, 노인. 도시에 사는 분들, 교외에 사는 분들, 시골에 사는 분들. 동성애자, 이성애자, 성전환자. 백인, 라틴계, 아시아, 아메리카 원주민까지. 역사상 가장 다양하고 광범위한 이들의 연대가 너무나도 자랑스럽습니다.”

아시아기자협회는 바이든 당선자가 진실과 정의에 바탕해 세계질서를 정상화시키는데 앞장서 줄 것을 정중히 요청한다.

우리는 미국 제46대 조 바이든 대통령이 “재임 동안 ‘사람을 아끼고 인류를 살려낸 대통령’으로 영원히 기억되리라”고 믿고 전심을 다해 기원한다.

May the elected be remembered for his love of people, saving mankind

Asia Journalist Association(President Ashraf Dali) sincerely welcomes the election of candidate Joe Biden as the president of the United States of America with members from over fifty Asian countries.

Biden finally being elected as the president of the U.S. after overcoming difficulties from personal misfortune to two failures in the midst of fifty years of political history is well shown in his speech where he spoke “unify, not divide, and American president, not a democratic party“.

He stated “this is the time to heal” and will “make America respected around the world again”. We regard his words applicable to not only the U.S. but also to all democratic countries which value citizens’ happiness based on freedom and justice as the best virtue.

We regard Biden emphasizing harmony and unity, voicing “to end this grim era of demonization in America begin here and now” and that “For all those of you who voted president trump, I understand the disappointment tonight” very highly.
It cannot be denied that during Trump’s presidency, the world was in agitation in the flood of too many ‘unpredictability’, ‘destruction of common sense and principle’, and ‘false news’. We anticipate and support president Biden to break away from such nonsense, and ‘domination by the strong’, and recover the world order based on common sense and principle.

In 2020, which is the third first year of ten years of the 21st century, the whole world unfortunately fell into pandemic and confusion and crisis is aggravated. We believe the Biden administration will gather the wisdom of medical professionals from all over the globe and take strong actions against COVID-19 by developing vaccines and medicines.

AJA also asks for the Biden administration to provide concrete and practical solutions to policies to Asia which were neglected and distorted due to the Trump administration’s U.S. isolation policy. Under a prerequisite to rid of U.S.-China trade war and nuclear threats, we hope to seek realistic measures of coexistence on the sanctions against Iran and North Korea.
We hope the new administration will be equipped with wisdom and knowledge to solve the historical crisis surrounding Israel and Palestine including their neighbors. At the same time, we earnestly pray the Biden administration will regain hope for girls and boys of the Middle East who had lost their dreams as conflict and war became routine.

We also ask for the new Biden government to actively inherit positive legacy such as recovery of diplomatic relationship detente between Israel and yet resolutely correct foreign policies that had been distorted.

Once again urging for president-elect Biden to take the lead in normalizing the world order based on truth and justice, we congratulate and express our respect to his election and American citizens’ choice.

We firmly believe that president-elect Biden will faithfully execute the pledges he made as a candidate in relation to improvement of the earth environment including climate change and refugee issues.

We are especially paying attention to two parts he shared through the election announcement. “I will be honoured to be serving with a fantastic vice president – Kamala Harris – who will make history as the first woman, first African American woman, first woman of South Asian descent, and first daughter of immigrants ever elected to national office in this country.”

“Democrats, Republicans and independents. Progressives, moderates and conservatives. Young and old. Urban, suburban and rural. Gay, straight, transgender. White. Latino. Asian. Native American. I am proud of the coalition we put together, the broadest and most diverse in history”

Asia Journalist Association respectfully ask president-elect Biden to take the lead of normalizing the world order based on truth and justice.

We sincerely wish that the 46th president of the United States, Joe Biden, will “forever be remembered as the president who ‘cared about people and saved humanity’ during his presidency”.
