[이 순간] 다른 여름으로의 초대···옥스퍼드 처웰강의 펀팅
[아시아엔=글·그림 박용민 주르완다 대사] 춥고 어둡고 습한 겨울이 긴 영국에서 여름은 환영받는 계절이다. 그래서 셰익스피어는 “그대를 한여름날에 비하리까”라는 질문으로 연시를 시작했다. 여름이 되면 옥스퍼드의 아름다움은 밝은 태양빛 아래 활짝 피어난다. 학생들은 시내를 가로지르는 처웰(Cherwell)강에서 ‘펀트(punt)’라는 배를 타고 천천히 강물을 거스르며 햇살을 즐긴다. 펀트에 몸을 싣고 강물 위에 떠있노라면, 시간이 홀연 느린 속도로 흘러간다.
Summer in Britain is often hailed as the height of beauty of all seasons. That should be why Shakespeare sang in his sonnet, “Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?”
When summer comes, the dreaming spires of Oxford shine under the brightly lit sun. Students enjoy gliding through the Cherwell River in flat-bottomed boats called the punts. Float yourself upon the river on a punt, then suddenly time flows at a much slower pace.
