‘오페라마’로 던지는 필리핀 ‘코피노’의 아픔

경희대 학생 공연 “책임지지 않는 한국인’ 화두 제기

[아시아엔=최정아 기자] 연극이나 연기를 전공한 적 없는 경희대의 ‘비예술전공’ 재학생들이 직접 공연을 연출하고 연기했다. 코피노(한국남성과 필리핀 현지여성 사이에서 태어난 아이)들의 아픔을 세상에 알리기 위해서다.

코피노의 상처를 그린 <오페라마 코피노>가 22일 상암DMCC 디지털아트홀에서 열렸다.

공연된 작품은 어머니가 돌아가시고 필리핀에 홀로 남겨진 주인공 마리가 아버지를 찾기 위해 한국으로 떠난다는 내용을 담았다. 주인공 코피노 마리역엔 박경아(경희대 언론정보학 ), 정사장 역엔 조여환(경희대 언론정보학)

, 필리핀 엄마 릴리 김정인(경희대 무역학 )이 맡았다.

현재 코피노 인구는 약 3만명. 코피노를 낳은 한국인 남성들이 양육을 책임지지 않아 사회문제로 떠올랐다. 이번 공연의 연출을 맡은 황태준(경희대 작곡과) 씨는 “코피노들의 아픔과 상처를 한국인들이 공감하고 응원하고 있다는 사실을 필리핀의 코피노들에게 전하고 싶었다”며 비예술전공 학생들이 뜻을 모아 매일 3시간씩 자면서 연습했다”고 말했다.

주한필리핀대사관 아이안 카링갈 2등 서기관도 <오페라마 코피노>를 관람했다. 그는 이번 공연에 대해 “필리핀에 한류드라마와 K-POP 인기가 많지만 그 어떤 한류 공연보다도 더욱 훌륭한 공연이었다”며 “‘코피노’를 다룬 공연으로 한국에 대한 좋은 이미지가 필리핀까지 전해질 수 있을 것”이라고 말했다.

이번 공연의 총감독을 맡은 정경 경희대 후마니타스 교수는 “이번 공연을 올리기 위해 학생들이 직접 100개 기업에 후원요청을 보내고 500개 언론사에 보도자료를 보냈지만 단 2개의 언론사만이 답을 보내왔다.”며 “예술을 전공하지 않은 학생들이 스스로 사회문제에 대해 고민하고 최선의 노력을 다한 공연이었다.”고 말했다.

공연이 끝난 뒤 <오페라마 코피노> 공연단은 필리핀 대사관을 통해 대학생들이 코피노에 대한 마음을 담은 롤링페이퍼와 성금을 전달했다.

Kyunghee University Students raise discussion on ‘Irresponsible Action of Korean Men’

Kyunghee University students majored in non-arts related fields and without any experience in theater or acting went to the stage and let their hearts out to prepare for a performance they have never done in their lives. It was to let the world know more about Kopino, children born between a Korean father and Filipino mother.

Focusing on the suffering of the Kopino children, ’Kopino Operama’ was held last December 22nd in the Digital Multi Content Center’s Digital Art Hall in Sangam-dong, Seoul.

In the play, the mother of Marie, the main character, passes away, leaving her on her own to look for her biological father. The main character, Marie, was played by Park Kyeong-ah and President Jeong, a businessman, was played by jo Yo-hwan. Both are students are communications students from Kyunghee University. Marie’ mother, Lily, was played by Kim Jeong-in, a student majoring in trade.

There are approximately 30 thousand Kopinos in the Philippines. It rises as a social issue as the Korean fathers abandon their children and do not take responsibility. Directed by Hwang Tae-jun, a student majoring in composing, he notes that “We want to let Kopino children to know that we share the suffering that they experience” and that “while most of us are non-arts major students, we have practiced for this play and have slept only for 3 hours every day with our goal to relay our message.”

Aian Caringal, a diplomat from the Philippine Embassy said in a message after the play that, “This play is way far better than any Hallyu drama or K-pop performance” and that “the messages of support and understanding of Kopino children in the Philippines will be delivered.”

Humanitas Professor Jeong Kyeong, leading his students in preparation for this play notes that, “For this performance, the students contacted about countless companies and media outlets but we only got a reply from 2 news companies.” “This performance goes beyond being a theatrical play as the students themselves tried to understand social issues and made their best for the performance, “ says Jeong.

After the performance, cast members gave a collection of their messages and a small amount to be delivered to Kopino children through the Philippine Embassy in Korea.
