[2020 평창영화제] 소년이 본 전쟁 ‘비무장지대’
“다시 평화!” 2020년 6월 중순, 강원도 평창에선 2020평창국제평화영화제가 열렸습니다. 코로나19로 극도의 긴장과 우려 속에 엿새간 치러졌습니다. 전 세계 주요 영화제가 취소 또는 연기되는 가운데 코로나 사태 이후 처음으로 열린 평창영화제는 안팎으로 ‘성공적’이었다는 평가를 받고 있습니다. <아시아엔>은 이번에 선을 보인 34개국 96편의 영화 가운데 선별해 독자들께 소개합니다. <편집자>
동심의 시선에서 본 전쟁의 풍경. 휴전 상태인 1953년 DMZ에서 한 소녀가 엄마를 찾아 헤매고, 이때 한 소년을 만난다. 전쟁 고아인 두 아이는 생과 사의 갈림길에서 동행자가 되어 방랑하는데, 주변엔 지뢰를 비롯한 수많은 위험들이 도사리고 있다. 극영화와 다큐멘터리, 두 가지 버전이 존재하는데 현재 볼 수 있는 건 1966년에 아시아영화제에 출품되었던 세미 다큐 버전. 한국영상자료원이 최근에 리마스터링 버전이 첫 선을 보인다.
The DMZ
A view of war seen from the eyes of innocent children. In the DMZ of 1953 with the two Koreas in a truce, a girl while wandering around looking for her mother meets a boy. The two orphans of war become each other’s companion as they wander helplessly together at the crossroads of life and death. Surrounding them are numerous dangers like landmines. There are two versions of the film: one as a feature-length film and the other as a documentary. The one that is available for viewing is a semi-documentary that was submitted to the Asian Film Festival in 1966. The Korean Film Archive recently released a remastered print.
박상호
1931년생. 연극으로 데뷔했다. 1956년에 첫 영화 <해정>을 내놓았고, 이후 <또순이>(1963) <비무장지대>등 25편의 영화를 연출했다. 2006년에 타계했다.
