파키스탄 군인·경찰 홍수 재난구조 ‘한마음’···주말 폭우로 10여명 감전사

[아시아엔=나시르 아이자즈 <아시아엔> 파키스탄 지부장] 파키스탄은 8월 둘째 주말 말 그대로 물난리를 겪어야 했다. 폭우로 인한 침수와 정전으로 12명 이상이 감전사했다.

10일 오전 시작해 11일 정오까지 계속된 집중호우는 수도 카라치와 해안지대에 큰 피해를 입혔다.

파키스탄 기상당국에 따르면 카라치에 주말 사이 150.6mm의 폭우가 쏟아졌다. 이 비는 13일까지 계속될 것으로 예상되는 가운데 해안지역인 타타와 바딘에서 피해가 컸다.

갑작스러운 홍수로 해안마을 여러 곳이 고립되었다. 특히 인구 2500만 수도이자 산업 중심지인 카라치에서는 군인과 경찰이 보트와 크레인까지 동원돼 고립된 시민들을 구조하고 있다.

A dozen people die as fresh spell of monsoon rains hit Pakistan Sindh province

At least a dozen people were electrocuted while various districts were flooded and experienced prolonged power outages as fresh spell of heavy monsoon rains lashed Souther Sindh province of Pakistan since Saturday morning.

The uninterrupted torrential downpour which started on Saturday morning and continued till Sunday noon created a critical situation in Karachi, the provincial capital, and other coastal districts.

According to the MET office, the rainfall recorded in Karachi was 150.6mm. More rains have been predicted for Sindh that might continue till August 13.

The heavy rains caused flash floods in coastal districts – Thatta and Badin where the agriculture sector was badly hit. Several coastal villages were cut off from rest of the country due to flash floods.

In Karachi, the industrial hub and largest city of country with 25 million population, boats and cranes were used to rescue the marooned citizens.
