“카슈미르 문제 해결부터”

[아시아엔=나시르 아이자즈 파키스탄 지부장] 인도 정부는 지난 7일 파키스탄 정부에 대해 “람 나트 인도 대통령의 파키스탄 영공 비행을 허용해달라”고 요청했다. 인도의 나트 대통령은 아이슬란드 방문을 위해 이날 오후 파키스탄 영공을 비행할 예정이었다.

이에 대해 파키스탄 정부는 “인도 정부의 요청을 받아들일 수 없다”며 거절의사를 통보했다.

샤 마흐무드 쿠레시 파키스탄 외무장관은 “우리 정부는 이 카슈미르 지역의 위급한 인권 상황을 고려해 요구를 거절했다”고 발표했다.

쿠레시 장관은 “임란 칸 파키스탄 총리도 외무부의 이같은 입장을 승인했다”고 덧붙였다. 쿠레시 장관은 또 “인도의 카슈미르 침략 행위가 파키스탄이 이런 결정을 하게 된 원인이 되었다”고 말했다.

쿠레시 장관은 인도에 의해 점령된 카슈미르의 상황을 강조하며 “인도 정부가 34일째 카슈미르 주민들에게 생활 필수품을 허용하지 않고 있다”고 전했다.

그는 “카슈미르에서 가혹한 인권침해가 자행되고 있는데도 인도 정부는 이 문제에 대해 방관하며 강경 노선을 굽히지 않고 있다”라고 했다.

앞서 임란 칸 파키스탄 총리는 지난달 “인도에 대해 파키스탄 영공 이용을 불허토록 검토중”이라고 밝힌 바 있다. 파키스탄은 인도가 파키스탄 육로를 통해 아프카니스탄과의 무역하는 것도 전면 금지하는 방안을 고려하고 있는 것으로 전해졌다. <번역 이지후 인턴기자>

Pakistan rejects Indian president’s request to fly over its airspace

Pakistan on Saturday afternoon rejected a request made by Indian authorities to let the airplane of Indian President Ram Nath Kovind fly over Pakistani airspace for a visit to Iceland.

Pakistan rejected the request based on the alarming human rights situation in Indian-administered Kashmir, said Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi.

Prime Minister Imran Khan had approved of the decision to reject the request, Qureshi added. The foreign minister further said that Indian aggression in Kashmir was responsible for the Pakistani decision.

Highlighting the situation in occupied Kashmir, Qureshi said that the Indian government had deprived the people in Kashmir from basic necessities for 34 days now.

“A terrible injustice is being carried out in occupied Kashmir and the Indian government has refused to budge from their hard line position on the issue,” the foreign minster remarked.

In August, it was reported that Prime Minister Imran Khan was considering shutting down Pakistani airspace for India. A complete ban on Indian trade to Afghanistan through Pakistani land routes was also under discussion.

A federal cabinet meeting to discuss the proposals was called last week, and a formal decision in this regard was expected to be announced soon.

On August 5, India has revoked the constitutional autonomy of Indian-administered Kashmir and imposed a military curfew in the valley.
