2023년 이란을 빛낸 보통사람들

[아시아엔=알리레자 바라미 이란 ISNA 편집장] 이란은 페르시아제국 달력을 기준으로 태양년 새해가 3월 21일 시작된다. 이란력을 기준으로 한 ‘2023 올해의 인물들’을 소개한다.
작년 한 해 이란에선 여성들이 화제를 모았다. 나르게스 모하마디는 22년 경력의 저널리스트이자 정치·사회운동가다. 정치활동에도 깊이 참여하면서 수년간 투옥됐던 경력이 있어, 그의 남편과 두 자녀는 여러 해 동안 해외에 머물러야만 했다. 모하마디는 2023년 노벨평화상을 수상했다. 이란 여성이 노벨평화상을 받은 것은 그가 두번째다. 20년 전인 2003년, 모하마디가 주간지 기자로 활약하던 그 시절, 인권변호사 시린 에바디 변호사가 노벨평화상을 수상한 적이 있다.
이란의 젊은 여기자 닐로파르 하메디와 엘라헤 모하마디도 빼놓을 수 없다. 이들은 2022년 경찰서 조사과정에서 발생한 소녀의 죽음을 사진과 함께 최초로 보도했다. 이 보도로 이란 전국에선 반정부 대규모 시위가 이어졌다. 그로 인해 이들은 감옥에 수감됐다가 2024년을 맞이한 지 2주 만에 감옥에서 석방됐다. 2024년 초에 맞이한 반가운 소식이다.
일흔 살 사데그 부기는 이란 북부 라슈트에 사는 할아버지다. 라슈트는 유서 깊은 역사도시로, 사데그는 지난 30년간 축구장에서 트럼펫을 불며 시 지역 연고팀을 응원했다. 라슈트시 축구단 팬클럽의 리더였던 그의 노래와 춤이 SNS에서 화제를 불러일으키기도 했다. 그런데 지역 법원은 엉뚱하게도 그의 노래를 검열하고 경고조치를 내렸다. 이런 소식이 전해지자 수백만 이란 국민들은 부기의 노래를 따라 부르며 그의 무고함을 외쳤다. 급기야 그의 음악은 국외에서도 유명세를 얻기 시작했다. 이에 놀란 중앙 정부는 라슈트시 사법당국의 판결을 뒤집어야 했다. 사데그 부기는 현재 수백만 소셜미디어 팔로워를 자랑하는 인플루언서로, 광고수입도 괜찮다고 한다.
알리 데바쉬는 65세의 베테랑 언론인으로 문화 및 문학 분야를 전문적으로 다뤘다. 그는 지난 25년간 문화전문지 ‘부카라’를 발행해 왔다. 데바쉬는 2023년 말과 2024년 초 두 차례 입원해 수술을 받았는데, 경과가 안 좋아 사망했을지도 모른다는 가짜뉴스가 나돈 적이 있다. 안타까운 소식이 전해지자 이란 국민들과 저명인사들은 데바쉬의 활동과 관련된 책을 만들며 그의 건강을 기원했다. 마침내 올해 초 병원을 나선 그는 퇴원 이틀 만에 특별한 모임을 주선했다. 1000년 전 페르시아의 서사 시인으로 ‘이란의 호머’라 불리던 페르도우시의 명작 ‘샤나메’ 연구자들을 한 자리에 불러모은 것이다. 25년간 1000번 이상의 문학 및 문화 모임을 성사시켜온 데바쉬 다운 퇴원 선물이었다.
이란력 1402년을 빛낸 사람들의 이야기다. 이들의 공통점은 무엇일까? 유명 배우나 가수가 아니다. 부자도 아니다. 자기 일을 사랑하고 매진해온 보통의 사람들이다. 그들은 이란 국민이라는 것에 그 누구보다 긍지를 느끼고 있기에 고국을 떠난다는 상상조차 해본 적이 없을 것이다. 이란의 역사와 문화, 국민들을 위해 헌신해온 그들이 자랑스럽다.

This year, a group of Iranian women made news. “Narges Mohammadi” is a journalist and political-social activist. She was working for a weekly newspaper 22 years ago. In these years, she was more involved in political activities. She has been imprisoned for many years because of his political activities. Her husbahdand 2 children have been living outside Iran for several years. Mohammadi won the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize. This is the second time that an Iranian and an Iranian woman won the Nobel Peace Prize. Exactly 20 years ago, when Mohammadi was a reporter for a weekly newspaper, Iranian lawyer “Shirin Ebadi” won the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize.
“Niloofar Hamedi” and “Elaheh Mohammadi”, 2 female Iranian journalists, were imprisoned for 17 months. They published the first news and the first photo of a girl whose death at the police headquarters caused street protests in Iran. They worked for two newspapers in Tehran. These young women were released from prison 2 weeks after the beginning of 2024. Their release was welcomed in Iran. It was a good thing at the beginning of the new year.
“Sadegh Booghi” is a 70-year-old man who lives in the north of Iran; In a green and historical city called Rasht. For 30 years, he had played the trumpet and cheered for his city’s football team in the stadium. He was the leader of the fans of Rasht football team. After his retirement, he worked at the fish market and sang happy songs while doing the work. A video of his singing and dancing was noticed on social networks. A local judge admonished him and filtered his page. This made millions of Iranians support him. Many young people performed the folk song he sang, not knowing its meaning. Even outside of Iran, this performance became a hit. The national authorities canceled the ruling of the local authority. Sadegh Booghi’s page now has millions of followers. He himself has earned a lot of income from advertising.
“Ali Dehbashi” is an experienced Iranian journalist. This 65-year-old man works in the specialized field of culture and literature. He has been publishing the specialized magazine “Bukhara” for 25 years. In his magazine, he has held more than a thousand specialized meetings in the field of culture and literature. Even though he is sick, Dehbashi works hard. Dehbashi was hospitalized twice in the last days of 2023 and the beginning of 2024 and underwent surgery. Some fake news published bitter news about him at the time of his hospitalization. The publication of these news caused a large number of Iranian people and celebrities to publish texts about him. They praised Dehbashi a lot in their texts. They wished Dehbashi to regain his health. Two days after leaving the hospital, he held another meeting while he was under special conditions; A meeting about a researcher of Shahnameh, a famous Iranian book by Ferdowsi, a poet who lived a thousand years ago. Ferdowsi has been nicknamed “Iranian Homer”.
These were Iranian news-makers in 1402; A year that was partly in 2023 and partly in 2024.
The common feature of these people is that none of them were celebrities. They are not famous actors or singers. They are not rich. They were anonymous (ordinary people) but they love their work. They like life in Iran. They do not leave their country and work for the people, their history and culture.
