인도 동부 자르칸드 주로 향하던 중이었던 국경수비대 소속 항공기 ‘슈퍼킹 B-200’은 추락 직전 관제탑에 기술적 문제로 회항을 요청한다고 밝힌 것으로 알려졌다. 그러나 곧이어 공항 경계벽과 정화탱크를 들이받아 화염에 휩싸이고 말았다.

이에 대해 구조당국 관계자는 “마침 근처에 기차가 지나가고 있었다”며 “기차충돌로 인한 민간 피해를 막기 위해 경계벽을 들이받은 것으로 추측된다”고 밝혔다.

Plane crash in Delhi kills 10 on board

A Ranchi-bound Border Security Force charter flight crashed near Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Tuesday morning, killing all the 10 people on board.

Indian news agency PTI said the flight was carrying paramilitary technicians. According to initial reports, the flight hit a wall at Badpola village in Dwarka, about 5 km from the Delhi airport, as soon as it took off.

“Two dead bodies have been recovered from the crash site. We are looking for more,” Joint Commissioner of Police (South West Delhi) Deepender Pathak told PTI.

“The tragic news of BSF plane crash near IGI airport in New Delhi is extremely painful. Rushing to the crash site immediately,” Home minister Rajnath Singh tweeted.

According to officials, Ashram Express train was passing by when the plane crashed. Pilot may have decided to crash into the airport wall, to avoid collision with the train.

An inquiry into the crash has been launched.
