여러 측면에서 그럴 가능성이 있다. 사람들이 자신의 생각보다 기계에 지나치게 의존하게 되면, 창의력은 점점 위축된다. AI에게 사고를 맡기면, 시간이 절약되긴 하지만, 독립적으로 사고하고 독창적인 아이디어를 발전시키는 능력은 약화된다.
창의성은 경험과 실험, 그리고 실수를 통해 길러지는 능력이다. 시행착오는 단지 학습의 수단이 아니라 성장의 과정이다. 각각의 실패는 우리 고유의 목소리를 찾아가는 데 한 걸음 더 다가가게 해준다. 이는 상상력과 창의력을 북돋우는 중요한 경험이다.
그러나 AI가 즉각적이고 정제된 답을 제공하면서 이 필수적인 과정을 단축시키면, 사람들은 시도조차 하지 않게 된다. 사고는 멈추고, 가장 간단한 작업조차 AI에 의존해 아이디어를 구하거나 글을 맡기게 된다. 그 순간부터 창의성은 뒤로 밀리고, 자율적 사고능력은 서서히 사라진다.
물론 AI의 장점도 분명하다. 글쓰기 속도를 높이고, 문법 오류를 잡아주며, 글이 막힐 때 이를 넘어서게 도와준다. 신중하게 활용한다면 AI는 인간 사고를 대체하는 것이 아니라 훌륭한 보조수단이 될 수 있다.
하지만 진정한 위험은 ‘과의존(過依存)’이다. AI에 지나치게 의존하면 신뢰성과 창작 본능이 모두 훼손된다. 고유한 목소리는 흐려지고 만다. 학생들 중에는 AI를 이용해 과제를 처리하면서 학습 자체를 회피하는 경우도 점점 늘고 있다. 이 같은 습관은 창의성을 억누를 뿐만 아니라, 스스로 배우고 표현하며 얻는 즐거움까지 무디게 만든다.
진정한 성장은 스스로 글을 써보는 데서 비롯된다. 실수를 하고, 부단히 배우고, 스스로의 목소리를 찾아가는 노력이 필요하다. 더 많은 일을 기계가 대신하는 시대일수록, 창의력을 유지하는 가장 확실한 방법은 여전히 ‘스스로 생각하는 것’이다.
우리가 스스로의 사고를 포기하지 않을 때, 우리는 더 나은 작가가 될 수 있을 뿐 아니라, 인간성과 창의성의 본질 또한 지킬 수 있다.
Is AI Killing Creativity in Writers?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is no longer just a buzzword—it has become deeply embedded in our daily lives. From writing blog posts to generating social media captions, people are increasingly relying on AI for creative tasks. This trend raises a critical question: Is AI killing creativity in writers?
In many ways, the answer is yes. When people lean too heavily on machines instead of thinking for themselves, creativity begins to suffer. While asking AI to do our thinking may save time, it also diminishes our ability to think independently and come up with original ideas.
Creativity is a skill nurtured through experience, experimentation, and even failure. Trial and error are not just how we learn—they’re how we grow. Every setback helps bring us closer to discovering our unique voice. But when AI provides instant, polished responses, that essential process is short-circuited. People stop trying. The mind disengages. Even for simple tasks, we now often turn to AI to brainstorm or write on our behalf. That’s when creativity takes a back seat—and independent thinking begins to fade.
Of course, AI does offer benefits. It can speed up the writing process, fix grammatical errors, and even help overcome writer’s block. When used thoughtfully, AI can be a powerful support tool—not a replacement for human creativity.
The real risk lies in overdependence. Relying too much on AI can erode both our credibility and our creative instincts. It dilutes our authentic voice. Increasingly, students are using AI to complete assignments, bypassing the learning process altogether. This not only stifles creativity, but also robs them of the joy of discovery and self-expression.
True growth comes from writing on your own—making mistakes, learning, and finding your voice through effort. In a world where machines are doing more and more, the most powerful way to remain creative is to keep thinking for yourself.
Because when we choose to engage our own minds, we don’t just become better writers—we protect the very essence of what makes us human.
