[2020 평창영화제] 전쟁의 아이러니 ‘어떤 승리’

“다시 평화!” 2020년 6월 중순, 강원도 평창에선 2020평창국제평화영화제가 열렸습니다. 코로나19로 극도의 긴장과 우려 속에 엿새간 치러졌습니다. 전 세계 주요 영화제가 취소 또는 연기되는 가운데 코로나 사태 이후 처음으로 열린 평창영화제는 안팎으로 ‘성공적’이었다는 평가를 받고 있습니다. <아시아엔>은 이번에 선을 보인 34개국 96편의 영화 가운데 선별해 독자들께 소개합니다. <편집자>
2006년 7월 레바논. 이스라엘과의 전쟁이 한창인 가운데 24시간의 휴전이 주어진다. 그 사이 마르완은 가족을 두고 아버지를 찾으러 남쪽으로 가지만 전쟁이 다시 시작되자 아버지의 친구 나지브의 집으로 피신한다. 나지브의 집에 이스라엘군이 들이닥치고, 그곳에 모인 이웃들과 마르완은 그대로 갇힌 상태가 되어 버린다. <어떤 승리>는 아버지 세대로 대변되는 이웃들과 마르완을 중심으로 이루어지는 일종의 실내극 형태를 띠고 있다. 거의 실내를 무대로 하고 있음에도 불구하고 사운드 효과와 연출로 전쟁의 참혹함과 아이러니를 극대화시키는 작품.
All This Victory
The war is ranging between Hezbollah and Israel. During a 24-hour ceasefire, Marwan goes in search of his father. While Marwan is still trying to find his father, the ceasefire is quickly broken, forcing him to shelter in the home of Najib, his father’s friend. Soon after, a group of Israeli soldiers enter the building, and Marwan and the neighbors end up being trapped. The story revolves around Marwan and the neighbors who represent his father’s generation. Although the film is mostly set indoors, the sound effects and Ahmad Ghossein’s skilled direction effectively maximizes the horror and irony of war.
